I’ve been a little behind in my reading of Brandon Sanderson’s blog. I just read his entry from the end of March when he talks about his “collaboration” with Robert Jordan in completing A Memory of Light.

This part has me all choked up:

Collaborating with Robert Jordan seemed to set me too high in the process. I’m finishing the Master’s work for him, since he is unable to. I kind of feel like Sam, carrying Frodo the last few paces up the mountain.

Maybe I’m just a big old sap, but that just pulls at my heartstrings.

All choked up by Brandon Sanderson’s words

I think what I like most about what Brandon Sanderson has to say about The Shadow Rising is how he likes parts that other people don’t tend to like. He doesn’t even mention why it’s my favorite book, the breaking of the White Tower.

No, one of the things he liked about it resonates with me as well. When it comes to Perrin and Faile, I am a big fan. I agree with him about Faile being misunderstood. I mean, in a way, I sort of am Faile in many ways. Too many people loathe her. But she is my absolute favorite female character of the series. (Mat is my favorite male character.) If WoT’s new writer also likes Faile, I think that bodes well for how she is treated in A Memory of Light!

Brandon Sanderson on The Shadow Rising

The Dragon Reborn happens to be the book I’m currently re-reading now. Brandon Sanderson muses in his blog about how this is the book where we really are meant to realize that the Wheel of Time series is not all about Rand.

Brandon Sanderson on The Dragon Reborn

I just now caught up with Brandon Sanderson’s blog. For those of you who might not recognize his name, he’s the man who will be finishing A Memory of Light for us. He’s re-reading the whole Wheel of Time series in preparation for writing, and he’s jotting down some of his thoughts in his blog as he reads each book.

One thing I can agree with him on is how the shifting viewpoints of the narrative add to the overall experience.
